Future fuel stations must consider both the physical architecture of the station and the digital services that support the experience. Stations must balance needed function and ease with potential for use case expansion. Information and communication technologies can catalyze innovation and new services, and different technologies and design choices can improve services and support different user behaviors; these behaviors can be both existing forms of conduct that the user has adopted, as well as new actions that could revamp the experience.
